I am a few years single after a long, lovely marriage. I have a 12 year old daughter and she, her father and I have a healthy, communicative family relationship. Most of my relatives reside back east.

Career:

Associate Professor, University of Colorado

I'm a professor of literature and poetry writing. I have a Ph.D in American Literature with a focus in Modernism and the Harlem Renaissance. I have a Master of Fine Arts in poetry writing and am the author of three collections of poetry, One Girl Babylon, When the Moon Knows You're Wandering, and Desdemona's Fire. I am a fellow of Cave Canem, an organization of African American Poets. I have lived and worked in Boulder, CO at CU for the last few years but have had academic posts at University of Missouri- St Louis, Southern Illinois University -Edwardsville, and Missouri Western State College. I did my graduate work at Arizona State University and my undergraduate work at Penn State University in my home state of Pennsylvania.

Hobbies/Interests:

Most of my free time goes into reading and writing though I really love to spend time with friends when I have the opportunity. I watch more HBO and Showtime than I care to admit, enjoy movies, a good walk, a healthy meal, great conversation, a cook out, and watching a good basketball game.
